DONNER LAKE stalked along the inside into the first turn, bid between at the five-eighths pole, dueled up the backstretch and far turn, took over at the quarter pole, cleared briefly in upper stretch, challenged by SBAGLIATO with a furlong left to run, drifted out in the final sixteenth and held gamely. SBAGLIATO raced keenly in hand early before settling off the pace in the two path, angled out on the far turn and raced five wide turning for home, closed in fast to draw alongside DONNER LAKE at the eighth pole, got floated out by that rival in the last sixteenth and failed to go by. KIMMER taken back to last and steered over to the inside, trailed two wide into the far turn, swung out past the quarter pole, rallied in the drive and finished gamely outside the top pair late. FLINT STROLL stalked the pace outside a pair of rivals, traveled two wide on the backstretch, remained in the two path around the far turn, before tipping three wide approaching the stretch, steered inward while trying through the lane but could not summon the needed late kick. KEEN TO GO reserved along the inside in the opening stages, tipped two wide at the quarter pole, lacked room behind rivals in upper stretch, roused with a furlong remaining and finished willingly late. JOHN DUNBAR stalked between around the first turn, moved inside on the backstretch, coaxed along at the half-mile pole, hugged the rail to the stretch, tipped out in the lane but failed to rally. LONE SCOUT pressed the pace in hand outside the leader then three deep on the backstretch, ridden along to keep up on the far turn, chased four wide into the lane and weakened. NATIONAL GENERAUX (IRE) took control from inside under pressure from LONE SCOUT, fought even terms with DONNER LAKE up the backstretch, lost command at the quarter pole, fought to upper stretch and weakened in the furlong grounds. THERE WAS A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INVOLVING THE STRETCH RUN BETWEEN DONNER LAKE AND SBAGLIATO. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS RULED THAT ALTHOUGH DONNER LAKE DID DRIFTED OUT AND MAKE SLIGHT CONTACT WITH SBAGLIATO IN DEEP STRETCH, THE INCIDENT DID NOT WARRANT A DISQUALIFICATION.
