Footnotes
TRAIN THE TRAINER moved in while going to the front then showed the way, controlled the action while inside to the two path on the turn, was asked some near the five-sixteenths pole, responded well when roused for more in the three path into the stretch, was given one pop of a right-handed crop outside the furlong marker, switched to a left-handed crop inside the furlong marker and held under strong urging. SOONTOBEKING broke out and bumped with a foe then brushed with that same rival, settled off the pace, saved ground while asked in dead aim of the leader on the turn, shifted to the three path at the quarter-pole, pursued the winner under a drive in the stretch and narrowly earned the place while unable to impact the winner. PRINCE VALIANT bumped with a rival at the start, tracked the pace down the backstretch, was given his cue in the two to three path on the turn, spun into the stretch in the four path, chased the winner while outside in the drive, battled with the runner-up for the place and just missed that position while clear for the show. CALLING CARD bumped with rivals on both sides at the start then brushed with a foe, was reserved off the pace, came under encouragement in the two path on the turn and lacked the needed response. FIRST PITCH stalked the pace on the outside, was asked while in the three to four path for most of the turn, dropped back while moving to the five path late on that bend and tired. SMILENSAYCHEESE settled off the pace on the outside, dropped back under urging with five furlongs to run, floated from the three path to the six path on the turn and failed to respond.
