Footnotes
NITROGEN broke out at the start, raced in the two path on the first turn, tracked the pace on the outside, made a bid in the three then four path on the far turn, took the lead outside the five-sixteenths pole, shook clear under her own power outside the quarter-pole, drew away while put to very light coaxing in upper stretch and widened with the rider poised like a statue in the irons to win handily. BESSIE ABOTT (IRE) went to the front, raced inside on the first turn, showed the way off the rail on the backstretch, dropped from the two path to the inside early on the far turn, was asked under heavy threat from the winner near the three-eighths pole, lost the advantage outside the five-sixteenths pole, dropped back under strong urging outside the quarter-pole and proved no match while well clear for second. MAY DAY READY broke out and a bit awkwardly then dropped back, saved ground on the first turn, moved out early on the backstretch, reached the outside before the five-eighths pole, was asked near the seven-sixteenths pole, chased in the four to five path for most of the far turn, dropped to the three path outside the quarter-pole, turned into the stretch under a drive and tired.
