Footnotes
LIGHT THE WAY angled in while hustled to the front, raced inside on the first turn, showed the way down the backstretch, was urged along passing the half-mile pole, vied in the two path while inside of a foe on the far turn, was challenged to the inside by the runner-up while under the crop in upper stretch, rubbed saddles with that foe while dueling at the eighth-pole, continued to rub saddles shortly thereafter, fought gamely to the finish and prevailed under a hand-ride in the end. DETERMINEDLY settled on the inside, was roused on the far turn then rallied along the rail, closed strongly to make a bid inside of two foes in upper stretch, rubbed saddles with the winner while dueling against the rail at the eighth-pole, continued a spirited tussle to the finish and was denied while clear for the place. ROTHSCHILD raced in the four path on the first turn, stalked the pace on the outside, rounded the far turn in the four path, was given his cue outside the five-sixteenths pole, turned into the stretch in the five path, chased into the final furlong and weakened but earned the show. SAGAMORE MISCHIEF traveled around the first turn in the three path, tracked the pace on the inside of a rival, was urged along late on the backstretch, made a bid at the seven-sixteenths pole, vied outside the winner in the three path on the far turn, spun into the stretch in the four path, dropped back into the final furlong and tired. SLIP MAHONEY rounded the first turn in the three path, settled near the middle of the field, was urged along late on the backstretch, went around most of the far turn in the three path then dropped to the rail and lacked the needed response. TABEGUACHE raced in the five path on the first turn, settled comfortably on the outside, was roused in the five then four path on the far turn and failed to threaten. WILD BANKER raced in the five to six path on the turns and was no factor. BAD LARRY dropped back at the start, saved ground on the first turn, was urged along towards the rear, rounded the far turn in the three path and failed to respond. ALWAYS BE SMART was last to commence, raced in the four then three path on the first turn, settled near the back, dropped from the four path to the three path while under extra left-rein pressure on the far turn and showed little. BRING ME A CHECK went around the first turn in the two path, was well placed just off the pace, chased inside to the two path on the far turn, dropped back late on that bend and retreated.
