Footnotes
THE CLOSER bumped with a rival at the start and was off a half-step slow, moved up while urged along early then tracked the pace on the outside, gained in the four path on the turn, made a bid near the five-sixteenths pole, took the lead coming to the quarter-pole, spun into the stretch in the five path, kicked clear near the three-sixteenths pole, was put to a right-handed crop outside the furlong marker, continued under the crop until inside that marker then was put to a hand-ride before being eased up late while much the best. DARK DEVIL was hustled from the gate, established a good position just off the pace, moved from the two path to the rail very early on the turn, saved ground while asked on that bend, chased the winner under a drive into the final furlong and proved no match while well clear for the place. FISCAL DRAG went to the front, set the pace under pressure to his outside, vied in the two path on the turn, was given his cue inside the five-sixteenths pole, lost the advantage approaching the quarter-pole, dropped back in upper stretch and tired while able to get the show. DEW bumped with an opponent at the start and was off a half-step slow, settled at the rear of the field, angled in around the nine-sixteenths pole, moved from the inside to the three path while roused on the turn, swerved out to the seven path into the stretch and lacked the needed response. THE CROWLEY CUP pressed the pace on the outside, was asked near the seven-sixteenths pole, vied in the three path on the turn, dropped back in the four path into the stretch and capitulated.
