Footnotes
ARCTIC BEAST vied with a pair when seven paths off the rail down the backstretch, then got shaken off a bit and tucked four wide into the turn, went three wide through that bend advancing on the leader to poke a head in front just outside the quarter pole, swung five to six wide into upper stretch, inched away under a drive to the eighth pole, dug in under lone threat to the outside and just held on to prevail. VALENTINE CRUSADER coaxed from the gate, vied early on four then three wide inside a pair before easing off near the nine-sixteenths, tucked to the two path through the turn and came under coaxing near the quarter pole, went seven wide into upper stretch, dug in under a drive closing well and just missed at the end while well clear of the rest for the place honors. FROUTIEN shied in at the start in reaction to PRIDE OF THE UNION breaking inwards and was taken hold of in behind SUNDAY BOY, chased just off the inside and then along the inside, got roused taking the two path into upper stretch, weakened while along for the show honors. SUNDAY BOY bobbled at the break, came under hustling and chased four then three paths off the inside down the backstretch before tucking to the two path through the turn under encouragement from the five-sixteenths, angled six wide into upper stretch, weakened. PRIDE OF THE UNION broke in brushing the near side stall and then got corrected before making contact with FROUTIEN as that rival shied inwards in reaction, chased five to six paths off the inside down the backstretch, tucked three wide into the turn and advanced through the bend into contention near the quarter pole, went seven to eight wide at that station and into upper stretch and tired. DIAMOND LIFE coaxed from the gate, vied briefly five to six paths off the inside with a loosely flanking pair of foes, emerged from that at the nine-sixteenths with sole command and tucked to the two path half a mile from home, came under light coaxing at the five-sixteenths, yielded the front just outside the quarter pole and swung four wide at the head of the stretch, then folded in the drive.
