Footnotes
AWESOME BOURBON was nudged on in the beginning to assume command going into the first turn, set the pace uncontested along the backside, narrowly maintained the lead on the rail through the far turn, spurted away on the fence scattering the geese that were on the track in upper stretch and stubbornly held on to the finish line while never switching leads down the lane. MONTEREY BAY had the rail while in the third flight, waited for the cue to go on the fence a quarter mile from home, scraped paint extended his stride sharply at the top of the stretch and with a solid late charge in the last eighth of mile just missed when inside the winner at the finish line for the win. JOURNEYMAN had the rail spot watching the pacesetter in the beginning, drafted just behind the frontrunner on the rail by the half, shifted out three wide making a move at the three eighths marker to loom boldly in the three path turning for home, dug in determinedly in the final furlong outside the leaders but was just outkicked in the final seventy yards settling for the third place share in the end. GRANDSON had a stalking role inside rivals settling on the rail early on, edged up the fence on the far turn, had a quick turn of foot at the furlong marker losing the gap on the leaders and ran on well enough late to be all alone for a minor share at the finish line. BRITISH ARTILLERY was in the third tier outside another down the backside, inched up outside a rival through the far turn, shifted out four wide in the mix for a minor placing straightening out for the drive but evened out in deep stretch. TIZ ROMANTIC was ahead of only one runner just off the fence down the back straight, kept pace with horses on either side travelling around the final bend, shifted out four wide for the stretch drive and finished up mildly inside runners in the late running. PENNER ASH (IRE) was unhurried at the back of the pack in the early stages, started to close in on rivals at the top of the stretch and managed to pass weary foes on the outside in the final seventy yards. INDIAN PEAK was close to the back of the pack going three deep down the back straight, offered a mild burst three wide midway around the last turn but could not make a presence in the five path in the stretch drive. EL ALACRAN tracked the leader on the outside in the first bend, moved in closer down the backside, vied between challengers for the lead midway on the far turn, could not go on with the lead pair by the quarter pole while under a drive and folded in the two path by upper stretch.
