Footnotes
NOBALS broke sharp to have the lead at the start, relinquished the front end to the inside foe into the backstretch, settled into stride smartly while hounding the frontrunner outside down the back straight, was moving well measuring the pacesetter to his inside around the turn, angled out five wide moving up to be a menacing presence outside at the top of the stretch, dueled down the lane, was encouraged right handed at the eighth pole and found just a little more late to edge away from a game rival inside for the victory. PATCHES O'HOULIHAN was hustled on the rail to get the lead while inside foes at the five eighths pole, set a brisk pace down the backstretch, rolled along while pressed outside in the turn, had another challenger to contend with to his inside as well at the quarter pole, shifted three wide holding on up front turning for home, dug in stubbornly in deep stretch but was denied by the winner in a thrilling stretch battle. WAR BOMBER (IRE) tracked the engaged pair three wide between horses, kept pace in the two path just behind the embattled trio at the quarter pole, was no match for the front twosome who threw it down in upper stretch but did finish up solidly to be a clear third at the finish line. REMUDA tracked on the fence keeping a close eye on the lead pair down the backstretch, took closer order on the front two with seven sixteenths from home, moved in even closer to bid on the rail by the quarter pole, shifted just outside in the two path entering the stretch, could not go with the top two runners who had it to themselves at the furlong marker and finished up mildly in the late stages to share for a minor role in the end. ARMSTRONG travelled four deep on the outside watching the front pair down the backside, regressed slightly three wide outside horses around the turn, angled to the four path for the stretch drive seeing the field but kept on trying late and came back on to settle on the fringes in the end. FLAG OF HONOUR (AUS) was allowed to settle on the rail trailing the tight group at the half, edged up lengthening stride inside foes at the quarter pole to be in range at the top of the lane, had nothing left to offer by the eighth pole and yielded in deep stretch.
