Footnotes
SAILOR'S PASSION stalked near the rear on the inside, sat patiently behind a wall of runners at the half, mounted a rally shifting out three wide midway around the last turn, swept around horses six wide gathering more speed at the top of the lane and edged away for the win in the final seventy yards. SOUPER WATSON tracked the pacesetter outside in the first turn, was eager closing the margin outside along the backside, bid for the front outside foes three furlongs out, took over control midway on the last bend, had company outside clinging to the lead at the quarter pole, dug in stubbornly inside rivals down the lane, was no match for the winner late but did valiantly save the place share at the wire. GRANDE SOIREE stalked close to the back outside the eventual winner, made an early move progressing three wide outside runners at the half, circled the field beginning at the three furlong pole three wide to be up front in the five path at the top of the stretch, dueled down the stretch while not switching leads until the sixteenth pole when the winner went by outside but did fight back late to almost come on again for the place share in the end. VOLCANIC was coaxed from the start taking this group into the first turn, continued to dictate the pace down the backside, was collared outside at the three eighths marker, offered no resistance on the fence around the far turn and was one paced in the lane but still held on for a minor role in the end. SUNRISE DRIVE was unhurried seeing the field in the early stages, picked up a rival outside with five sixteenths to go, shifted out to the six path turning for home and managed to pass a couple of weary foes down the stretch. FAN CLUB travelled in midfield on the outside three wide, offered a brief turn of foot splitting runners at the three furlong pole, could not sustain the rally four wide by the time they entered the stretch and never got into contention running to the finish line. LUCKMAN travelled in the two path watching the frontrunner, tracked the contesting duo in the two path with three eighths remaining, tried to keep up with others when nudged for more around the final turn but faltered in the two path by upper stretch. TIBERIUS MERCURIUS had a good position nestled behind the frontrunner on the fence, came under a ride when the pace quickened at the three furlong marker, retreated on the rail around the far turn, angled five wide for the drive but lacked a finish down the lane.
